MANIFESTO
(kind of)
recently, i’ve become very passionate about socio economics
Recently, I’ve become very passionate about socio-economics, and re-learning history through the lens of class struggle (aka not the history we are taught in the US). I’ve been desperately trying to learn & read what I can, and hone in on the most effective “tactics” to not only spread ideas of class consciousness/working class solidarity, but ultimately how to make some real (material) change.
In terms of real, systemic change to our economic structure, I know that is certainly not something I or any 1 person could do alone, but in the mean time, while I learn more, study and discuss theory and tactics, I would like to use my platform and do what I can to plant ideological seeds into people’s heads, and get people thinking about things like our economic structure, and how it influences all of us on an individual and cultural level.
THE INITIAL IDEA
In Spring of 2023 when I first got the offer to headline Cervantes, I was (and still am) a young spring chicken in the world of critiquing capitalism & exploring alternatives, but I knew I wanted to do something with this event, and my platform in general, to push the needle forward on these ideas, have these conversations, and maybe even serve as an example for exploring alternative ways in which we can collaborate & cooporate on a “business” level, by demonstrating that alternative ways of running things not only possible, but work.
Most companies, businesses and events alike operate in a way that, despite sounding dramatic, can best be described as Authoritarian. You have 1 person or a small group of people at the top, and then one or multiple layers of manegerial heirarchies below, and then the workers at the bottom. There’s nothing democratic about it, and yet, whenver we think of governments running in such a way, that almost immediately raises a red flag for most people. This is typically how lineups are constructed, how shows are booked, and how the money is distributed. Apart from the foot soldiers of large coorporate agencies, labels, and event production companies & their dogmatic Capitalist sympathisers, I don’t blame any working class people for just trying to survive, make their money, & go home, whether it’s small-mid tier artists getting the bag for their headline event, small-mid tier talent buyers trying to calculate and carefully balance risk & profit,
