BIT DEPTHS, SAMPLE RATES, & FILE FORMATS

Did you know that you can “clip” well over a hundred db above 0 in 32bit without actually clipping? Did you know that 32bit wave files also don’t work on CDJs? Did you know that the film standard sample rate is 48khz? Why are sample rates double the audible frequency spectrum or more? Does any of this shit matter? Really, does it?

Yes, and no. You shouldn’t need to think about any of this stuff all that much, but understanding stuff on this front might save you a headache when you’re trying to b2b with DJ Fucking Idiot and your 32bit Wave of Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites won’t read on the decks, or when your audio on your Windows PC sometimes makes everything sound crackly or robotic. There’s reasons for all these things. Windows audio drivers are tricky and weird, but you can tame the beast. I can show you. Let me show you.
