I assure you, mastering is not the hard to grasp, unreachable skillset reserved for dehydrated sound engineers in their late 40s that many newer producers fear it might be. For the most part, mastering is just the careful taming of dynamics, sometimes with the subtle addition of warmth, or even brightening things up a little. Although, most smooth brains you’re paying $20 for nowadays are just slapping Pro L 2 on there and calling it a day (ehem, me). Ah, it’s that simple you, say? That’s all you do?? What a rip off!!! Fine, don’t watch this one.

For real though, I have much to say on this topic, and have learned a great deal about mastering since I’ve started providing it as a service 3+ years ago. I know the limits of my understanding, and I challenge old wisdom, and my hopes with this class are to cover the fundamental concepts surrounding mastering to demonstrate that yes, you can certainly master your own tunes, and yes, I encourage you to do so, as it will probably teach you invaluable things about your mixdowns that you’d only be getting second hand otherwise.
